Dhaka, formerly spelled Dacca, named Jahangirnagar during Mughal era is the capital of Bangladesh. Dhaka is one of the major mega cities of South Asia. It is the 9th largest city in the world and also 28th among the most density populated cities in the world. It is located on the banks of the Buriganga River. Dhaka, along with its metropolitan area, has a population of over 16 million, making it the largest city in Bangladesh. Dhaka with its exciting history and rich culture is known world over, as the “City of mosques and Muslin”. It has attracted travelers from far and near through ages. According to recorded history it was founded in 1608 A.D. as the seat of the imperial Mughal Viceroy of Bengal.

Dhaka is the capital of Bangladesh has grown into a sprawling city with an area of about 1550 sq. km having a happy blending of old and new architectural trends. It has been developing fast as a modern city and is throbbing with activities in all spheres of life. This city is the center of industrial, commercial, cultural, educational and political activities for Bangladesh.

Colourful rickshaws (Tricycle) on the city streets are common attractions for the visitors. Some of the outstanding attractions of Dhaka for visit are Lalbagh Fort, Ahsan Manzil Museum, Martyr’s Memorial, Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban (Parliament), High Court, National Museum etc.
