Professor Bosco Paes MB BS, FRCPI, FRCPC, FAAP is a Professor Emeritus in the Division of Neonatology, Department of Pediatrics, at McMaster Children’s Hospital/McMaster University. He graduated from Trinity College, Dublin, Ireland in 1972, completed his fellowship training in Neonatology at McMaster University and joined the paediatric faculty in 1983 as the NICU Director of St Joseph’s HealthCare in Hamilton. Professor Paes held conjoint appointments in the Department of Family Medicine and a Graduate Faculty Appointment in the Master of Clinical Health Sciences (Nursing) Programme at McMaster University during his term of office. He was the Medical Director and a pioneer of the Acute Care Nurse Practitioner Program in Neonatology in Canada and the Director of the NICU at McMaster Children’s Hospital.
Professor Paes is a member of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ireland and Canada and the medical associations and academies in Ireland, United States and Canada. He has received several teaching awards and has been recognised for his academic contributions by the President at McMaster University and the Pediatric Chairs of Canada. Professor Paes is a member of the Pediatric Investigators Collaborative Network on Infections in Canada and the Canadian Neonatal Network. His current research interests focus predominantly on the epidemiology and management of RSV in children, and thrombosis and hemostasis in the neonatal population.
